Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Risk Manager, responsible for developing, implementing and managing programs to ensure a safe and healthy workplace and ensure potential hazards are identified and corrected.  Responsible for assessing risks, developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, conducting inspections, investigating incidents, and providing training. Ensure they remain stay up-to-date on relevant regulations and best practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify potential risks across various areas of the property, including financial, operational, legal, and reputational risks.
  • Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Identify potential hazards, assessing their risks, and recommending measures to control or eliminate them.
  • Create, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures and training programs.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Investigating workplace incidents and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide training and education to employees on safe work practices, hazard identification and emergency procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and maintaining accurate records.
  • Collaborate with management, employees, and other stakeholders on health and safety matters.
  • Assist the Risk Manager in coordinating safety programs, safety committees meetings and related communications.
  • Responsible for property-wide OSHA compliance while assisting to ensure compliance with all other Health & Safety regulations, policies and standards.
  • File and process documents associated with Workers Compensation claims and maintenance of all records. Assist the Risk Manager with the Workers Compensation Program.  Assist Risk Manager with safety committee meetings and coordinate safety recognition programs for Team Members. Maintain vendor Certificates of Insurance. 
  • Maintain and facilitate safety training including departmental training checklists. Assist in developing programs to effectively communicate safety programs and promote safety culture to all levels of team members.
  • Coordinate and maintain records of Random Drug Testing Program.
  • Assist Risk Manager to maintain current master file of Safety Data Sheets.
  • Attend required OSHA training and any other applicable continuing education.
  • Coordinate the annual Health and Safety Fair.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Direct Reports:  None.

Access to Sensitive Areas: Human Resources Office, all Team Member records and files. All areas of the Casino and administrative offices where it concerns health and safety. Executive office, count room and cage require prior approval of Director of Human Resources.

Signatory Authority: All risk and safety related forms and documentation. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field, unless waived by the Director of Human Resources.  One (1) year of experience in Human Resources and/or risk and safety field is required.  Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems experience required.  Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills are required.  Must be 21 or older.  Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation, as well as obtain and maintain a gaming license. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience in cross-functional project management methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of records management and basic accounting procedures.
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial principles and risk assessment methods.
  • Skill in operating word-processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint programs in a Windows environment including HRMS.
  • Ability to identify and resolve risk-related issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and assess risks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact effectively with executive management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying. Social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
  • Ability to use good judgment, analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the work environment is indoors, with a low noise level and employee may occasionally be exposed to cigarette smoke.
