Position Summary:

Under the general direction from the Financial Controller, organizes, plans and manages all accounting activities and services of the General Ledger Accounting, Accounts Payable (AP), Revenue Audit, and all accounting processes.  Ensures all accounting functions are performed in accordance with Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and applicable tribal, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations. Maintains strict confidentiality of privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures timely completion of daily audits, postings to the general ledger and month-end reconciliations. 
  • Assists Financial Controller in preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, as well as enforcing and establishing policies and procedures that are efficient.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements standardized accounting policies and procedures, in accordance with GASB and applicable tribal, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Oversees Accountants, AP and Revenue Audit employees; improves staff effectiveness by coaching, counseling, training and recommending disciplinary action for employees; planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.
  • Conducts period audits of key account codes and data to ensure accuracy; implements corrective action.
  • Collects, prepares and maintains financial documentation to comply with accounting standards and applicable gaming regulations; meets and coordinates activities with external and internal auditors; and, works with the department managers to collect audit deliverables, as needed.
  • Maintains effective and efficient standards for control of inventories and property asset management.
  • Monitors all financial activities, to ensure that all applicable laws, rules, regulations and controls of the property, including the Internal Control Policies and Procedures, GASB , State Compacts, NIGC MICS, Tribal Gaming Regulatory, etc., are enforced throughout the property.
  • Coordinate, review and finalize tax payments to meet the specified filing deadlines for federal, state, and tribal reporting, including revenue sharing, sales tax, etc.
  • Facilitates financial discussions with department managers to ensure accurate financial reporting; investigate and report department variances from budgets and other anomalies.
  • Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure coordination between personnel and accounting activities
  • Contributes to department’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues and goals; providing information and commentary pertinent to the team’s overall success; recommending options and courses of actions; implementing directives.
  • Supports a professional and technical environment by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Assist and oversee the daily preparation of gaming reports and other requested reports for the operation.
  • Responsible for diligent review of the internal control systems, policies and procedures with respect to payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger processes.
  • Coordinate, assist or perform any other special duties, projects or analyses as directed.
  • Understand and be able to process and transmit all tax payments and forms including, but not limited to, W2G, 1042S, sales, usage, 941, W-2, 1099, etc. on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors as needed.
  • Oversee fixed asset processes.
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis for the Controller, CFO and senior management. Respond to inquiries regarding financial results and special requests for Senior Leadership and Management.
  • Prepare memos, analysis, policies, and procedures as requested by Controller.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Direct Reports:  Revenue Audit Supervisor, Staff Accountants, AP Supervisor.

Access to Sensitive Areas: Accounting department.

Signatory Authority: Relevant accounting forms.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.  Five (5) years of accounting experience in a casino environment, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory roleExcellent interpersonal communication (verbal and written), analytical and problem-solving skills are required.  Strong knowledge of database concepts, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite as well as the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects is required.  Must be 21 or older.  Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic accounting, math, and record keeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of casino software programs and equipment related to cage operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete and pass Title 31 training and assessment.
  • Ability to operate a calculator, adding machine, and currency counting and sorting machines.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods, walk and stand, push, pull, bend, reach with hands and arms, talk and listen.  Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level.  Occasional work is performed in a Casino setting with exposure to second-hand smoke and a moderate noise level. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
